Grade Six Soars!

What requirements does a paper airplane require to fly a long distance? Or do loops and rolls? If your not sure; ask a grade 6 student in Ms. Kuipers class. After learning about the four principles of flight (thrust, drag, lift and mass); the students set out on an inquiry project to design the longest distance or trick paper airplane. Through out the research, design, testing (data collection), reflection/adjustment, and re-testing, students worked diligently creating their paper airplanes. They had the opportunity to share their airplane design at a class Air Show. After the prototype was finalized and shared with their classmates, they went further to create and package a ‘Paper Toy Airplane Kit’ that could be marketed and sold at a toy store. Now grade six really soars!
